Developed after fly patterns for trout and salmon fishing, patterns were adapted into specific flies for brass. Anglers fishing for brass developed the popper fly, which is still used today. Many early anglers developed new fly patterns and wrote about the sport, increasing the popularity of fly fishing in the United States as a whole. Fly Fishing peaked in the 1920′s in the northeast and Midwestern United States.
